Taiji Quan (Tai Chi)

Taiji Quan (Tai Chi) is an ancient martial art system that uses gentle, flowing movements to create and balance inner energy called Qi (Chi). It has mental, emotional and physical benefits, such as increased agility, self confidence, better memory and mindfulness .

According to oral history of our tradition, Taiji was created by Zhang San Feng, who upon seeing a bird wrestling with a snake was struck with a sudden flash of enlightenment. Witnessing their interaction gave him a spontaneous understanding of the interplay between the cosmic forces of Yin and Yang, on which Taiji is based.

There are many styles of Taiji, but we start off beginners with the 24 step Peking style, a "paint by numbers" form created during the 1950's, based around the Yang style. This includes basic Tui Shou (push hands) and Neigong (internal work).

Once a certain level has been achieved, we move on to Zhang Sen Feng Pai, an old traditional style with a much deeper understanding taught. Again, this includes Tui Shou and Nei Gong.
